Sometimes you make mistakes, we all do, let’s make sure you don’t make a big one and end up hiring the wrong person for your business. Once you have made the decision to hire someone, asking them to move on if they are not the right fit is harder than you think. I might sound like a broken record, but you must be prepared and have a very clear strategy around your hiring process which will help you avoid some very costly mistakes in the future.
So think about these before you start your next round of hires;
- Don’t hire based on one interview. Conduct at least 2 interviews with different leaders in your business and even set them a task to complete.
- Don’t start hiring without looking in your talent pool first, you might have someone ready step up already entrenched in your business.
- Make sure you have a plan
- Think about the future….don’t hire someone just based on a short term goal.
- Please don’t hire a mate or your cousin because you think it’s helping them out. It’s going to do more serious damage in the long run for you both.
- It’;s not always about money…don’t hire someone based on the bottom line – cheaper isn’t always better. People deserve to be paid what they are worth and you will definitely get what you pay for.
- Hire someone who is best for the job, not someone who you think is going to make your business look good.
