I am going to give you a look into the strategies I suggest implementing to ensure effective communication is properly introduced into your business.
- You need to master active listening. That’s right, believe it or not you need to be the best listener to have effective communication. If you can’t listen and absorb what a client, co-worker or staff member is saying how can you effectively respond. Too many people focus on what they are going to say rather than listening and responding to what they have been asked or told.
- Establish the right tone. Some people find it very hard to put themselves in another person’s shoes and believe that the tone of their voice is valid and has clarity. This isn’t always the case. Ask for clarity around your tone and work on getting it right.
- Create an atmosphere that is inclusive, relaxed and gives people the ability to feel comfortable to speak freely. If your staff are afraid to speak up or have a voice in your business, you will inevitably fail to succeed without a workforce that feels they can communicate and have input.
- Give great feedback and encouragement. When you have had an interaction with a staff member or colleague thank them for their time. Making someone feel valued is the first step to a great work environment. Make sure you are able to take feedback on board yourself, remember it’s never personal it is about succeeding in business together.
We all know being the boss is not easy, but ensuring you have a strategy in place to manage the communication amongst your team will go along way towards a great work environment and better working relationships with your staff.
